Program Description

Program Goal
Students will learn:

• ICD-9-CM inpatient and outpatient coding, including MS-DRGs and APCs

• Official guidelines for coding and reporting, inpatient and outpatient settings

• CPT and HCPCS Level II coding

• Coding for surgery, radiology services, pathology and laboratory, evaluation and management services, medicine, anesthesia

• Modifier usage

• NCDs, LCDs, ABN, and medical necessity

• Basic coding principles for physician coding

• Medical billing procedures with Medisoft Patient Accounting

• Introduction to ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS

• How to prepare for AHIMA’s CCA, CCS-P, and/or CCS examinations

Prerequisite:  High school diploma, GED, or have reached 18 years of age.  Central Business School Medical Terminology Certificate Program (MTRM200) is required.
